Shifting Focus

I started this blog a few years back before I took my first study abroad trip to Spain. I intended for it to be a travel blog, which it was for a while. But with the current COVID situation that has plagued us for almost a year now in the United States, I believe it’s time to shift my focus. Due to the lack of travel right now, I have decided to shift my content from travel to health and wellness tailored towards people with chronic illness, but also relevant for everyone! I am so excited to be taking a new step and progressing my blogging journey even further by helping people and sharing the tools I have learned since being diagnosed with a chronic illness to live a healthier life.

I have always been passionate about helping my community and making a difference. As some of you may know, two years ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) which is a chronic, autoimmune disease that affects the large intestine. Ulcers form in the large intestine, cause inflammation and even bleed causing a myriad of symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, lack of appetite, inability to absorb nutrients in food and constant diarrhea. My life was turned upside down. I had to re-evaluate the goals in my life that I always thought I would accomplish. I had to change the food I was eating, what I was drinking, how much sleep I was getting each night, and most importantly I had to learn how to destress and let things go. Through my two year journey with UC, I have learned how to live a healthier lifestyle and I can’t wait to share those tools with you.

I recently took a poll on my Instagram to see what types of content my followers would be most interested in reading. I did this because when I sat down to really ponder what I wanted my next move to be, I was having trouble narrowing it down to just one topic. I love dogs, I love travel, I love non-profits, I love helping others, I love volunteering and I love international education. How do I merge all of my interests into one common theme? Turns out, I was able to identify one thing that will never change over time – my disease. Turning wellness into a lifestyle is something everyone wants, but with this topic I can merge all of my interests and life experiences as a way to give you, the reader, a new perspective on life with a chronic illness.

So, thanks for being here! I hope you will join me in this journey to look through a new lens and learn tools that can help you live the life you’ve always wanted. From now on, I will be sharing with you how I have turned my struggles into purpose and used it to figure out what I am really passionate about. It was not an easy journey for me and it probably won’t be for you either, but all you need is the drive and determination to make those small changes.

How are you going to live your best life? Let’s explore!
